OUR INSTRUCTORS
BETSY TASKER: Betsy graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the University of Pennsylvania with a BFA. She also holds a MAE from Rowan University. Born and raised in Southern New Jersey, art studies began at The Barn Studio of Art as a teenager. After teaching art in the public schools for 35 years, including coordinator of the Fine and Performing Arts Department at Cumberland Regional High School, Betsy has returned to the Barn to teach. She works mainly in oils and watercolors.
MATT DANIELS: B.F.A. Tyler School of Art, Temple University. N.J. Teaching Certification: Teacher of Art K-12 Rowan University Matthew majored in painting and drawing at Tyler School of Art. After completing his degree he worked for some time with the Philadelphia Mural Arts Project under the guiding eye of Jane Golden. Matthew left the project to pursue a career as a high school fine arts teacher, a decision he has never regretted. As a child Matthew took classes in the non-competitive atmosphere at the Barn and was inspired by Pat and her innate connection with her students through fine arts. These days he finds inspiration in his own students.
KANDICE FIELDS PORTALATIN: Kandice graduated from The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with a BFA and MFA. She is a fine arts printmaker and freelance illustrator, currently working from her studio and print shop Crowstone Press. Her first experiences with an art education took place at The Barn Studio of Art under the instruction of Pat Witt. Kandice started attending The Barn at age 11 and continued her studies at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Then on to various Print shops such as The Brandywine Workshop and The Experimental Printmaking Institute.
LARRY FRANCIS: Larry Francis is a Philadelphia native who has painted on the streets of the city from the early part of his life in art. He studied painting at PAFA, where he was awarded the J. Henry Schiedt European Traveling Scholarship in 1970. His first career solo show was held at the Peale House Galleries of PAFA in 1979. Francis is represented by Gross McCleaf Gallery, where he has had a dozen solo shows. He can be seen in the short film Larry Francis: Painting Philadelphia, by John Thornton. Francis teaches Landscape Painting and Narrative Drawing in the Certificate/BFA program. He also teaches courses in the Continuing Education program at PAFA.
