By John N. Barron

Published 1967

Content: An informal Dictionary containing only words pertinent to painting, actual materials, and techniques. also includes Pronunciation guide.

“Delacroix once wrote that a dictionary is not a book, but an instrument, a tool; I have attempted to approach this dictionary in such a practical way. It is my hope that it may prove of use as a working grammar of the words of painting and as a handbook of reference for anyone—artist or amateur—whose interests include painting. I also hope that the presentation of these terms may serve to increase the understanding and appreciation of the painter and his work.
